Yes, thats a keeper for sure!
Yes!
I even remembered to take pictures!
What’s more, the plant is yellow-podded and is my most productive pea plant this year. Lots of peas per pod, too. I’m so thrilled with it!
It seems to take any condition in stride too! Direct sown in march, 22°f and raced ahead of my other plants and even kept up during a freak heatwave of 98° in early May. We’re back to the high 60’s to mid 70’s thankfully for the last 2 week’s, and into this week too.
I direct sowed mine in December, and it’s been actively growing ever since then.
It was my first pea plant to flower and start setting pods, too!
Stunning!
Looks to have descended from “Golden Sweet”. I have grown it for years and it’s a very distinctive and beautiful pea. According to Carol Deppe, it may be one of the varieties that Mendel worked with in his seminal genetics work.
The fade to blue as the petals age is quite lovely. If these don’t mature into a snow pea type pod, you may have a cross, otherwise all the traits you’ve described match the variety.
It’s also one of my earliest peas, here it is on my breeding trellis. I am making some manual crosses with it this year to grow out. If I like any of the results, I should be able to contribute a decent amount of seed from the F2/F3 generations in a couple years.
Lovely blooms, they are edible and look great on a plate. We eat tendrils and growing tips too, peas are a bonus. I just love the colors!
As a reminder for seeds to be sent in by November 22, 2025 so they can go into the 2026 mix. Be sure to save some seed for your garden too. Thank you for growing peas and saving seed.
