I am just starting a project this year, growing onions from true seed. I didn’t use to bother growing onions because they were always so cheap at the grocery store. But now, like potatoes most conventional non organic onions are treated with sprout inhibiting chemicals. The metabolic mechanism by which the chemical accomplishes that is mitochondrial inhibition. So i no longer feel comfortable eating conventional potatoes or onions. And in my town, organic produce is hardly ever on offer, so i need to grow my own now.
