Carrot in Clay Landrace

Nice! That would be a delightful result.

Sorry, I’m a bit late to the discussion. I’ve been working on carrots for about 10 years.
Avoid white roots - i think they are dominant, and will be a real headache to select away from.
For heavy soil, try the Paris Market and Oxheart styles - short fat roots that mature quickly.
My approach, looking for multicoloured ball style carrots was to plant paris market in the middle, then surround them with coloured long rooted carrots, and only collect seed from the paris market oranges then screen the next generation for anything with added colour then start selecting heavily for short fat. Almost there after 10 years, but finding blunt tips hard to stabilise.
Harvested about 4 litres of seed last week, and I’m calling the project finished despite a lot of colour variation - working title Purple Rainbow

Ms Luby from the Open Source Seed Initiative collated a lot of F2 carrot lines and made the seed available - this would be a great starting spot for anyone working on carrot grexes in the USA.
