Updates on the current developments around EU seed laws and de-regulation of the “new” GMO’s and patenting
So what came out of the vite?
Your idea of a GRIN intermediary for regular folks is a very cool idea. I wonder if that’s something Going to Seed could branch into eventually?
Not sure if it applies to Europe but here in the US, I really like the Seed Savers Exchange. I often go there when I’m looking to trial or add something new to my garden. I like the heirlooms because the descriptions give me an idea of where it came from, days to maturity and other things that help me decide if it’s a good fit to introduce to my garden.
I’m not actually a member; I just shop the online catalog. I think there is a fee to join as member, but it isn’t excessive and there are over 1600 pages of searchable listings of stuff to buy sell or trade that don’t appear in the online store.
GRIN is great too, but I feel a pit pressured to take extra care of something I get there, keep excellent records and report back and sometimes to return seeds. With SSE whatever I do with the seeds I buy is up to me.
Does SSE have a European presence or counterpart?
It’s free to join as a member, or at least it was a few years ago, when I joined. I agree that the Seed Savers Exchange can be an excellent place to find interesting seeds.
