Thank you for explaining that! Yes, high UV definitely makes sense; we certainly have that here. 
It’s ridiculous how easy it is to sunburn here. I hadn’t thought about more water loss, and that’s a really interesting thing to factor in. It’s so helpful to know things! 
Heh, there are probably pros and cons for every climate. Probably all climates are imperfect somehow, but probably all climates are wonderful somehow, too. My climate definitely has disadvantages, but I love breathing the dry air, the mountains are stunningly beautiful, and zone 7b is such a genuinely nice middle-of-the-road lowest temperature range. I can just barely get away with some tropical plants in a well-built greenhouse, plus I can also grow all the temperate plants that want long chill hours, and/or long, wet winters. There are a lot of wonderful things about living here!
