Thank you Kadence for sharing. Mind opening. Good to know that Walter Goldstein had is first “ahah” moment with Hopi farmers! Looking at their corn and realizing they were absolutely not fitting his agronomical… background! theory! I’m a bit skeptical about that, sounds like a sales pitch to me but since I have a personal buy-nothing policy I guess I’ll never find out. I do know from my own experience that weeds with big deep roots managed appropriately and combined with never using a machine to grind up the surface really improves the soil and productivity. ---

Interesting video from a Dutch potato breeder. He demonstrates how he stimulates his potatoes to flower by clearing all the small stems and lower leaves, and exposing the tubers to sunlight. Thank you, he’s an awesome pioneer who puts so much work into breeding better potatos and more. . I told him about Going to seed, he seemed interested. Maybe remind him once more. I think it’s encouraging to connect breeders, because it’s a numbers game and all of us have too much to do, too little time and resources. ---

This was really interesting! I didn’t know that white clover was tetraploid, self-infertile, or usually grows in cloned patches. And the techniques for finding four-leafed clovers are fun! I wonder if this might be a good technique for searching for other rare things in a field, too. Like if you’re trying to find a rare wildflower you want to save seeds from, or something. I glanced through the video. It’s funny I guess that some people just have the eye for it. I worked with a woman one time where everybody hung out by the pick neck tables at lunch time. EVERY time she came out, she picked a four-leaf clover or two. Nobody else ever found one. ---
