Our 2025 Landracing Projects in Gainesville, FL (Zone 9A)

08/24/25:

We all visited the gardens today, and for a long time this would be one of the last times this year that we all can go down. It’s not as hot, still a little bit muggy this time of year, and we were swarmed by mosquitoes.

Cassava is huge, but the roots are not ready to be harvested. The corn seedlings are up front and still looking really well. Might need to train the Puerto Rican black beans (cowpeas) up the remnants of the nitrogen fixing corn stalks.

The corn stalks might not be the best trellis suitable for growing the beans, next time I will work on the planting times for the three sisters method.

This view of the corn stalks look to be trelissing up some of the bean vines.

First time that I was able to capture a photo of one of the Puerto Rican black bean flowers.

A view From the other person of the garden, where the Sorghum and small corn plants are growing.

I believe at the corns on this side are from our original Seed stock, and are the F2 from ‘MadGardenSeeds.’

The last of the photos are of another Gardener’s plot that we gave some Tianung #64 sweet potato slips to. They have completely overtaken the plot. I am sure that these flowered before when we were living in Homestead, Florida but I don’t think that they had set any seed.
