# Rice

update on my rice. We have had very wet weather since the last picture and an enormous storm. So the rice is still standing and seems to be filling and picking up wheight. surely too early to harvest and put to dry…

Some varieties do much better in upland conditions than others.  
I’ve grown about 30 varieties and the guy I got my seed from has grown around 100(not in the same year.)  
For example Java Long Grain will grow upland, but does much better flooded.  
But Gharib seems to grow about the same either way.

This year was my… third?(time is a flat circle)… season. So far I’ve tried ~30 varieties. I have some favorites, but have another 60ish in cold storage to try and multi-year trials have only been done with three.  
It’s one of my favorite things to grow, but requires specialized equipment to prepare for the kitchen.
