I got squash seed from @Logan this year to grow out. The variety is called Rugosa friulana. On the seed packets in Italy, they call them [zuchetta](https://goingtoseed.discourse.group/t/zuchetta-landrace-very-long-necked-unripe-moschata-tromboncino-type/1671) and mark them C. moschata. Vivi tells me her Rugosa friulana crosses with pepo and believes the variety is actually just a C. pepo. The seed she gave me were supposedly a Rugosa friulana x unnamed pepo.

When I look at the fruit of Rugosa friulana online, the fruits look similar to warted crookneck pepos. The seed I have in front of me look a lot like pepo too. Those of you who know your botany, what say you?

Here’s an image of the fruits I harvested. I believe the fruits on top might be from Vivi’s seed.

I’ve spent a few hours looking at different photos of this variety online because I was interested in the same question. I suggest looking at the flowers and leaves when you are forming your impression. They look like C. pepo flowers and leaves to me.

Edit: I’m so interested because I am attracted to wild and primitive squash types. I was hoping it would turn out to be moschata, but it does still seem to me like an early domestic line for pepo ssp ovifera.

Yea those fruits Definitely look like _Cucurbita pepo_. Techically all Squash ID traits are fluid because every species is crossable!

Here are my notes about Squash ID, this will help you!

Also _C. pepo_ consists of 2 subspecies (It came from _C. pepo_ x _C. texana_), thus you can still see some _C. texana_ traits within pepo.

Did the Squash in question have good tasting fruits? perhaps we could trade?

I bought seed for rugosa friulana a few years ago from baker creek and have been growing them each summer since.

Baker Creek labels them as a C. Pepo. [https://www.rareseeds.com/squash-summer-rugosa-friulana](https://www.rareseeds.com/squash-summer-rugosa-friulana)
I would agree with this, the plants looked just like my other c. Pepo zucchini plants.

I concur. Those stems definitely look like pepo stems to me.

I feel more confident about it being a pepo, reading your posts, thanks.

@VeggieSavage - I’m in Europe, so trading seed across the Atlantic is a bit difficult at the moment. I haven’t tasted the fruit yet, but the friend I got it from it is one of her favorites.
