Serendipity Seed Swap! (US)

Hi! I think I finally qualify, so I’d like to request to be added to the list

Since I hadn’t read any previous posts in this thread, it took a realllyyyy long time for me to scroll down to the bottom through all 900+ posts. Lots of scrolling for a bit, then having to stop and wait while it loaded new posts, then repeat. I wonder if it might be time to archive and link this post to a new one, so it’s a little easier for newbies to navigate?

Because along those lines, I know you keep a running total of who is on the list at the top, and I’m curious how many people are ahead of me, but I don’t want to take the time necessary to scroll back to the top to check

So thankful for this swap and the opportunity to participate!

On mobile (and desktop, it’ll just look slightly different) you can click this thread count:

Then click and drag this slider:

to the top:

and avoid scrolling. :smiling_face::+1:

That is extremely helpful :joy: Thank you!

On mobile if you tap the thread title it will take you to the top, to the original post, also.

Hi, Ashley! Sure: you are added!

As for avoiding scrolling, I’m on a desktop computer, and I always hit the “End” button on my keyboard. That takes me down to the bottom of the thread. (Or the “Home” button to take me back to the top.) I didn’t know there was a way to easily do that on a phone too, so I’m glad to hear there is one! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Also if you select the page count it has a “jump to” option. You can select any page number including 1.

Please note that just because something says “commercial” on the package does not mean it comes from a grocery store. I use the “commercial” tag for anything that I purchased and did not grow.

Hi there all, we received the box today.

I can mail it out tomorrow, or on Monday. We are going to use a new box because this one was bulging.

That definitely is bulging!

My turn is coming up soon. I’m so excited!

I’m not sure who included the kohlrabi x Brussels sprouts seeds, but dang they sprouted fast!

Woo hoo! Those were mine. I made the cross because I thought it would be fun to see what they’d become!

They sprang out of the soil two days later. I’m excited to see what they’ll become as well. :joy:

Wow, that’s fast! They must be eager germinaters.

It’s pretty likely they’ll be cold hardy to 7 degrees Fahrenheit and pretty drought and heat tolerant, given that I grew them in my climate. Their parents were grown in a place that stays in mostly-shade and were watered once a week all summer, though, so don’t rush to stick those seedlings into full sun at 100 degrees with no irrigation or anything. :joy:

The cold and drought hardiness will help it here. If it starts getting 100f, I’m going to have to rethink my life choices. :joy::anxious_face_with_sweat:

(Giggles.) Yes, New Hampshire definitely should not be getting 100 degrees F!

The box is on its way to MamaRachael. It was mailed out this morning.

It was better that we took our time with the box and didn’t rushed it like we originally planned.

I think that we are going to take a break from the box, and grow out a lot of our mixes. I will be purging a lot of seed from our seed collection, next time we eventually go back on the box list.

Are those jelly rolls made with bubble wrap? Hmmmm …

Essentially, yes. Leftover Reflectix from various projects. Easy way to start seeds and have a lot in a little space. Been doing this a few years now.:+1:

Ooh, and it’s my turn next after her! :tada:

I’m finally getting to the point where most of my gardening space has had most of its many, many rocks removed, as well as almost all of its perennial weed roots removed, and I’ve hugelkultured the remainder, so I’m finally able to plant seeds of many perennials that have been waiting for me to plant them for a very long time. I’m hoping that this will result in a few things: 1) from that point on, my seed collection will mostly only contain annuals and fresh seeds of my own perennials, which means 2) more to share!, 3) more perennials to run through the gauntlet to test for drought tolerance!, and 4) a much smaller seed collection, because I won’t be hanging on to the same seeds for years at a time. :joy:

Is that the kind of thing you’re hoping to do, too? :joy:

I’m a bit surprised that places in New Hampshire haven’t occasionally hit 100F already.

Kohlrabi x Brussels sprouts sounds like a great cross. I haven’t been able to get kohlrabi to overwinter here. Our winters are generally warmer that they were fifty years ago, but they still have brief blasts of temps as cold or colder than it ever got. Many cold tolerant plants forget to go dormant over weeks barely below freezing and zap, - 15 for a day or two and their done. Kohlrabi and celeriac seem particularly vulnerable.

How does shade and regular watering imply drought tolerance?
