@JesseI these watermelons were chalk white, slightly green though. I do not know the original variety… thanks for proposing! That is great. I will check what I have in stock first, within this month, then come back and could ask for seeds. Still I have plenty of some kinds, kilos of gourds notably!
@ThomasPicard Might be from some hot climate so fruits don’t overheat. I have seen some that are very light green like navajo winter. That seems just as white in some pictures, but some pictures and videos have it very light green. Suppose early moonbeam has also very light back colour, with very clear green stripes and spots. I was thinking if I sent you some and they cross with yours and you send some seeds back, it might also be easier for genetic transfar this way. I did have some watermelon seeds this year from Spain that did surprisingly good, but in general it might be little challenging. Cold tolerance there might also be useful. If plants can establish earlier they should do better also in hot and dry. My moschata and maxima had this year little frost damage and watermelons and melons only had little protection from if under cloth. Yacon had frost damage where leaves touched cloth so it can’t have been that warm for others as well. And they produced with highs of low 20s C most of the summer.
@JesseI Hi Jesse, Yes there is some navajo winter in the patch. Last year I had problem with too dark skinned watermelons which seemed burned in places. As you prefer for transfers: I will have many seeds of watermelon this year (approx 300grams): one population at my place (f1 stage) and another (new, f0) from my girlfriend’s place where I made an “early mix” of about 20 varieties. + I multiplied the Kholododok watermelon which is supposed to have a very very long shelf life (3 to 5 months) https://nikitovka.com/en/watermelon/1269-watermelon-kholodok-4823094028554.html. Got one forrage watermelon too, still in stock, my winter watermelon population failed 100% on a too acidic ground.
