Wild watermelon, kordofan melon (citrullus lanatus subsp. cordophanus)

I got some red seeds watermelon from Thomas, and I remembered that we talk about the red seeds here.

These are originating from Minorca. The seller (Conservatoire Horticole et CĂ©rĂ©alier d’ArnĂ©, North PyrĂ©nĂ©es) from ebay told me that an old man there gave it to him, and that he did not know much about it. He renamed it “egusi de minorca”. Egusi is the name of the seeds eaten in some parts of Africa (cucurbits,melons, watermelons: depends on places and varieties), so it is rather confusing.
In my place they produced the craziest yield in the worsesoil: 110kilos on about 10 square meters, from 6 or 7 plants. I believe they are forage watermelons: bland, crispy, with ultra long storage
 The seller then acquiesced it must be.

They look very promising, I am looking forward to sowing them.



I just harvested a good 50kg of these. The dark green seeded type that I grew with watermelons 2 years ago. I don’t see any crossing with watermelons in the few I cut open. Would have been fun though!

Now what to do with them all is the next question
