Dear GTS community,
It’s my privilege to join again in our third year of growing the sprouting broccoli grex. Our first year was great, with many strains and excellent dry fall weather. It was easy to see lots of good flowering and mixing! We also witnessed lots of high vernalization strains or late bloomers that didn’t get to mix in and made notes. Our second season had less ideal weather and black rot abound, though excellent screening for vigorous resistant plants. We also saw the first grex mix and were very pleased with the outcome! Fun crossed individuals, overall good vigor ( to be expected from fresh seed) and a good looking theme. We received feedback from gardeners with pleased results.
Now, the third year was the planned for final crissing and crossing. I decided to put extra effort into some individuals like Purple Peacock to have representation and some of the better GRIN assesions. I did not receive as many seeds from other growers’ 2025 grow outs of our first mix. One seed savers group from Oshkosh,WI managed to do it though, so I’m pleeeased to have that in the mix plus 2025, 2024 select mix and other good performers.
