After a late cold snap that killed a lot of cabbage seedlings, my remaining plant are doing fine; I need to thin them down to the best in each position. Anyone else have cabbage in the ground?

Here is my row of cabbage, pre-thinning. I am selecting for cabbage aphid resistance and, eventually, well wrapped heads so critters don’t get inside.

That looks fantastic! I will be planting cabbage for a fall crop so i believe i will start my seeds in July? Ive never successfully grown cabbage before, as the cabbage plants i attempted last fall never formed any heads. Some survived most of our drowning wet winter but eventually rotted away so i was never able to gather seed. I will do my best to be more attentive this time. I love cabbage, especially sauerkraut, so im very VERY hopeful and excited to try again this year. It is nice to see someone elses crop growing and i look forward to your updates!
Started 1 for the spring, I’ll be sowing many more in a few days for a fall harvest. Look at the gts(left) next to Copenhagen early. I think I know which I’m storring for seed!

Just transplanted all of my cabbage into the ground on a nice rainy day! Supposed to have a few mild days so I thought it would be better to get em in early instead of during the heat. Planted each one about a foot apart, maybe a little more maybe in some spots. Hopefully that is enough spacing. Was originally gonna dedicate a specific area for them and succession plant after harvesting my potatoes but spuds are still going strong so instead I have my cabbage tucked in empty spots around my peppers, beans, squash and corn. I’m hoping that the other plants will help shade the cabbage and there won’t be too much root competition since the cabbage plants only have about two true leaves at the moment. I laid down some composted horse manure before planting, so that will hopefully give them a kickstart for nutrients. Ooohhh I hope for delicious cabbage heads this year!! Saved some extra seeds if I need to try spring heads instead but I’d really like to avoid cabbage moths and my thought is that fall cabbage should mean less pest pressure… Minus the slugs thriving in the rainy weather.
