This is my fourth year attempting cantaloupe/honeydew type melons, my first year with GTS seeds, and the first apparent success! In years past I tried heirloom seeds and they inevitably died of fungal diseases before the fruit ripened. I planted 16 mounds, and still have about six alive, with four producing either melons of respectable size or respectable quantity. And fungal pressure isn’t too bad. It’s so exciting!
My big question–how do you know when the melons are ripe? I know what to look for in watermelon but unsure in these mixed cantaloupe-style melons.
This is my first time growing muskmelon and I’m very excited about this one plant! 9 fruit on this lovely sprawler. Aaaannnddd I think that is the only successful muskmelon plant I have growing right now but with all the fruit on just one I’m pretty pleased!
My mom always picked cantaloupe/honeydew based on how good they smell from the flower end. Otherwise I have no idea how to guess when they are ripe either!
