31 year old Dartington food forest needs support

Martin Crawford and the Agroforestry Research Trust (ART) have done pioneering work for decades on temperate climate food forestry and perennial polycultures. They’ve been leasing from a Trust 2 acres on which they’ve developed a research and demonstration food forest. The Trust gave ART notice of lease cancellation. ART needs public pressure to push the Trust to instead sell ART the land for long-term security for the food forest.

I consider most petitions to be useless, but this one is worth signing. It sounds like the Trust has been taken by surprise by the public attention. Petition · Stop the Destruction of the World-Renowned Dartington Forest Garden - United Kingdom · Change.org

For more background, and daily updates on the campaign, see https://www.agroforestry.co.uk/save-dartington-forest-garden/

There are also three email addresses for Dartington Trustees shared at those links, which folks can email to put on more pressure than just adding to the petition number. I got a rather defensive reply to my email, which suggests that the trustees are indeed feeling the pressure from the public.

“Thank you for your taking the time to write to us and we appreciate your concerns however, we were in communication with the Agricultural Research Trust prior to this reaction on social media and remain committed to further discussions with our tenant.”

(They got the name of Crawford’s organization wrong; it’s actually Agroforestry Research Trust.)
