Anyone working on a Tobacco Landrace?

I scattered a mix of different tobacco varieties last year and have at least one plant growing. I plan to add some more seeds of different species and varieties and let anything that wants to grow cross and maybe I’ll get a nice tobacco landrace.

I don’t smoke so this is just for fun to watch stuff grow wild in corners and pockets between my plantings.

Not a grex but I have some tobacco seed from EFN. Have to look what name. I started some seed yesterday.
I just want to try growing everything :see_no_evil_monkey: Dad chews and I told him I’ll give him some to do whatever with if he wants.

It would probably be a lot better, and healthier, than any commercially sold product.

Some of my seed likely came from Experimental Farm Network but I really can’t even remember. I end up with a lot of random impulse buys anytime I order from EFN.

Ex smoker here, i managed tobacco only twice, somehow i always end up with seeds. Mostly unsuccessful non starters. It’s crazy how expensive tobacco has become. It’s so surprising so few people grow it.
I gave it to a friend who had no money, he said it tasted horrible. After a week he rang me up to ask for more. Said it was much purer.
I’ve done a ritual not long ago. After a meditation in which you concentrate on a life’s intentention. Mix sacred tobacco in water, stir and poke, pour the water in your hand and sniff it up like an elephant. Each nostril and then prey for the intention to come true.
Was an awesome experience. Opens quit some chakras and sinusses i had no idea existed, got on fire.
I’m not sure any old tobacco will do it, so check out on the webs before you repeat.

Tobacco is really nice to grow for flower and is good as a poultice for insect bites & stings. I’ve seen it mentioned as used for snake bites as well but thankfully haven’t had to test that out. I grew a variety from victory seeds that I saved seeds from for years. I somehow lost the ones I had when I moved to my current property so I ordered another pack of seed that I’m trying out. I haven’t caught a bug to collect or mix varieties but there are many out there to work with!

I didn’t realize victory seed carried so many varieties! That’s awesome.

It’s funny you post this now, I just got the Victory Seed Company premium variety pack and I’m planning to mix them all together and get some kind of grex.
Maybe we can both grow them out and exchange seeds next year!

I have a grex I got from a nice person on Reddit, this will be the second year I’ve grown it. I’m not a smoker but it’s pretty and the bees like it. Im gonna experiment and see what pests it repels when made into a tea. It’s a rustica so its potent.

:see_no_evil_monkey: I now have a wishlist of tobacco seed from Victory seed… Mostly rustica varieties that have a history of being grown in north America by native people.

Do the families cross pollinate freely or with different percentages different ways? In trying to look that up all I could say is that it seems to be considered 90% selfing, 10% cross pollinating if left on it’s own.

That’s pretty similar to what I found too.

This is what I’m growing now. I’ll be happy to share seeds if I’m successful with. IMG_2868|375x500

The frog eye Orinoco is what I had before.
