Are there any known correlations between the amount of time in cold storage required to break seed dormancy and the chill hours required for the mature plant to set fruit?
My theory would be that there may be some correlation. That seeds of low-chill varieties would possibly require less cold stratification to germinate.
I have not found any studies or data on this specifically.
If there is any correlation it could potentially be useful in selecting low chill fruit trees at the seed stage.
I’m thinking about apple seeds, but would be interested in thoughts or information on anything related.
