Cross species or cross genus hybrid?

Rye grows feral a a few locations in my area, as do several wild and feral species of hordeum(barley) and secale(rye) how comon are hybrids within this tribe of plants and how do you identify them visually?
I am growing a landrace of my local feral rye and soome plants look nothing like the wild population I collected them from

Haven’t studied the ID traits part but they both belong to the same Tribe. Knowing Poaceae Family where Intergeneric hybrids are common, it wouldn’t surprise me if crossing Secale spp. x Hordeum spp. is possible.

Plantnet ID app says it’s ~50% a Triticum spp.. I haven’t learned how to ID them yet or which traits to look for, so I’ll hopefully get to it eventually. Currently studying Sweet Potatoes.

I have it flagged for separation so I’ll watch it for variation next year if it is a hybrid. If so it’s about two feet tall and the rye around it is 6, so if there’s any backcrossing it should be noticeable. That a decent jump so fingers crossed. If not it’s still growing well and showing resistance to late rust.

Fantastic, keep us updated on how it goes! Curious to see the variations of the hybrid offspring!

That’s awesome! Intergeneric Hybrids paved the way for even further crop improvement!
When can grow out more seeds, definitely try & see if you make something from them (Like Bread or simply cooking them to gauge taste/texture).
