Hollyhocks are edible

Hi, I just posted a comment asking if anyone was working on mallow, then it occurred to me I could do a search and found this awesome thread!

I did not know hollyhock flowers are edible, will definitely be planting some. My mallow flowers are so small I normally don’t see them unless I get down there and really search, but last summer I noticed a few little light purple ones that were big enough to see easily. Not sure if it was a new variant or if that area just got more water. That definitely makes a big difference in leaf size. My mallow doesn’t grow in the native soil here but loves the areas I have worked on improving. If it’s growing in a place that gets dry in summer it just grows really small.

Someone I heard interviewed on YouTube said the mallow growing along the roadside in England got them through WW2. A pretty impressive statement!

I am wondering if anyone else in a cold harsh climate like Montana is growing mallow?

Amazing to harvest fresh greens right outside my door in mid December!
