I’ve been thinking about this ‘Xenia effect’. I was curious what it meant and whether it meant the seed size was determined by the pollen donor. I have concluded that it is not. Perhaps there is some effect, but, I have done multiple pimp X lyc. crosses and the seeds seem to be fairly normal pimp size, which is far far smaller than lyc. size. And today I just harvested the seeds from 2 different lyc. X gal. crosses, and the seeds seem normal lyc. size, whereas gal. seeds are tiny.
I can’t say that there’s no difference. Perhaps some subtle size difference that I could only see if I put the non-crossed seeds side by side? But without such comparison, they look to me just like normal seeds of the mother species. So, either my crosses are not crosses (I find that unlikely), or, this effect is at most minimal.
