Came across this paper on generating fertile/viable sorghum x sugarcane hybrids using nothing but conventional breeding and MS media. Thought others might find the concept interesting. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/46247557_Elimination_of_a_Reproductive_Barrier_Facilitates_Intergeneric_Hybridization_of_Sorghum_bicolor_and_Saccharum

That would certainly be interesting! A nice route to a more cold hardy and drought tolerant sugarcane. I wonder what the syrup would taste like? Somewhere in between the two?

I’d imagine intermediate? Does make you wonder about methods of reproduction though
