When it comes to landrace gardening,

I’ve got something quite astounding;

Your typical plants are boring,

But these ones are really astounding.

From beans and tomatoes so red,

To squash of many shapes and sizes,

Landrace gardening is the best way yet,

To grow the freshest of veggies and spices.

They’re resilient to wind and rain,

And can survive drought and heat;

Your garden will be thriving, again and again,

Making your landrace gardening complete!

So if you’re looking to grow something new,

And have it thrive and last;

Look no further than landrace gardening,

It’ll be a blast.

You’ll be the envy of all your friends,

Making your garden a sight to behold;

Landrace gardening will make you smile,

As it won’t ever get old!

This is too easy :slight_smile:

"Gardening with locally adapted landraces

Unlocks nature’s hidden mysteries and traces;

A community of gardeners we form,

As we share varieties to keep us warm.

Growing old heirloom favorites from the past,

Let our gardens be always bountiful and vast;

Diversity is key, we must remember this

As we continue to garden locally with bliss.

We come together in peace and harmony

To show the world a sense of community;

Let’s teach our kids the importance of landrace gardening

And keep these gardening traditions alive and thriving.

Let’s look to the future with inspired glee

And enjoy locally adapted landrace gardening! “Yee-haw!”

Share your knowledge and help each other grow,

For locally adapted landrace gardening can go places you know!

Let’s raise a glass to the wisdom of nature

And keep locally adapted landrace gardening as our culture.

Cheers to all the gardeners out there who share their goods

I did give this one some key words. But too funny!

Our heirloom plants in the garden,

Are in quite a conundrum.

The inbreeding causes a depression

That can’t be overcome.

Diseases that once were in remission

Have come back in full force.

Now our family’s garden has some issues

And is in need of recourse.

We should have listened to dear old Gramps,

When he said “Inbreed not!”

But we didn’t heed his good advice,

And now we’re paying the cost!

We’ll try to find more space and resources,

And figure out how to breed anew,

Before these problems with heirlooms
Really start to haunt us too!

Maybe in time we can improve things,

But for now let’s stop and take a rest.

For in the end, too much care has hurt

Our beloved heirloom plants in the garden.

We must take action before it’s too late,

To make sure inbreeding depression won’t be our fate.

From now on we’ll pay more attention

And try not to cause any tension!

The Agricultural Industrial Complex

The agriculture industrial complex,

A monopoly of seed companies flex.

Their ways have created a lack of food security

For the farmers who used to be quite free.

The prices are up, the supply is down

In every single agro-town.

What used to be open and public land,

Is now owned by corporations’ hands.

We need to fight this growing beast,

And take agriculture back from the elite feast.

With freedom comes control over what we eat,

Let’s bring agriculture back to its former seat!

Seed companies take heed,

We won’t let you monopolize the world we need.

Our sustainable agriculture will prevail,

We’ll rise up and break through the industrial jail!

That last one is great. That was really written by an AI? AIs are getting really good at creativity!

If I had a meme generator I’d adapt this for foraging. Accurate enough though.

Into google I type in the name of the meme (“two buttons” or “distracted girlfriend”) and “meme generator”. They usually want to be paid but I screenshot after adding text instead.

Yeah, both of those memes cracked me up! :smiley:

Everyone on the plant swap groups are bemoaning the choices they need to make between varieties. Meanwhile, landracers:

Super fun post! I read this the other day and it caused me to ponder on Landrace gardening and the marvel of the plant world. From 1909 found in an antique shop.

From the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving:

“On all sides he beheld vast stores of apples; some hanging in oppressive opulence on the trees; some gathered into baskets and barrels for the market; others heaped up in rich piles for the cider-press. Farther on he beheld great fields of Indian corn, with its golden ears peeping from their leafy coverts, and holding out the promise of cakes and hasty pudding; and the yellow pumpkins lying beneath them, turning up their fair round bellies into the sun, and giving ample prospects of the most luxurious of pies.”
