First attempt to grow GTS TPS in 2024 was in trays of unheated soil blocks. Only one seed germinated in that trial. The rest of the seeds i put in soil blocks on a heat mat set to 85F. Germination was much better but still only about 30%. Some of the seedlings were so weak and puny I discarded them. I potted up the remaining seedlings to give them some more time to grow on. Lots of variation with a few clearly more vigorous contenders.

He’s going to give a little presentation on their collaborative breeding project and seed trains, and be there to answer our growing questions. Very experienced TPS grower. I’m growing TPS for the first time. I’m growing at a new place this year so spring time I spent mostly carrying rocks, getting rid of turf and installing drip irrigation. All my plantings and seeding are delayed because of that. I started TPS in cells and have kept them in cold benches over the spring. This week I planted them out interplanted with okra and aubergine.

I have thinned only a little bit. There are still several plants in every cells and I decided to just plant them out like that. We planted them in distances around 20-40cm apart. They will be watered by drip lines. The soil is sandy loam.
