I’ve never grown okra, but cucumbers are not ready for seed saving at eating stage. This may seem like a no-brainer, but many people are not aware. A seed cucumber will be yellow or orange and much larger when it is ripe.

I have a number of friends who couldn’t figure out why the seeds from their store-bought cucumbers weren’t germinating. Most people have never seen a ripe cucumber, so it’s a common misconception.

Its understandable, for a long time i never knew you could plant anything from the store

Ripe cukes are usually yellow or orange. They also turn very tart like a lemon. I like to peel and cook the ripe cucumbers in a stir fry after collecting the seeds.

My husband was blown away when I told him that a red pepper is a ripe green pepper
