I’m excited about growing watermelon and maxima squash greens from Evalisa in thunder Bay!! What a great gift, I’m glad GTS and company were able to get the seed over here from Canada.
Plants are extremely healthy & vigorous(especially the maxima!). I intentionally seeded on the late side for bug reasons, but I think they’re are going to totally make it! Lots of beautiful diversity off the bat! Excited to have a project for me and a couple local farmers to develop useful strains on the farm here from this grow out.

I enjoy growing C. maxima as it’s been my #1 favorite crop to grow for the past 50+ years. Someday I might add Watermelon back, but only if I have enough space for everything else first. I’m thinking of growing Garlic on a permanent basis so I don’t have to rely on the commercial stuff that’s been grown with who knows what kind of chemicals. I’m currently getting close to having a Banana squash finished soon. It’s a recessive trait to the round shape of Buttercup / Kabocha types so once I see that trait it should be “locked in” future generations.
