A lot of seeds that I have comes from them, they are available in almost all the local nurseries here in Spain. I think a lot of people here starts with this types of packets.
I also found this seeds, but I can not find the website for them. Seeds from the canary islands “semillas canarias”. It may be that they are only sold there.
Hi, just added the 4 last ones, with not much details as I don’t have that much time right now. I did not find Semillas Canarias on the internet too. Please Richard add things if you feel so, as you already know things interesting about them. Ask me for how to do it if needed.
The first shop (intersemillas) was on the list, so I believe se could add the shop’s name in black and white within this same column, for clarity, as some already did.
We don’t really have a concept for landrace in Croatian language for plant kingdom. We have mixes (mješavina), or as Mare wrote some traditional heirloom varieties.
However, landrace concept exists in relation to pigs, and we call them “landras” pigs. They are one of the three traditional Croatian mixes / hybrid pigs. It is very highly valued. So I guess, the same concept could be easily introduced for plants, but if you search for it, there will be no “landras” plants or seeds available.
In Catalan is something like “són llavors vives i no tenen una estabilitat i homogeneïtat absolutes” “they are living seeds and do not have absolute stability and homogeneity”. So for me that phrase indicate a present genetic diversity.
Just forgot to write down what are the french equivalents, so you have
“variété-population” or “population”
or “variété de terroir” and “variété locale” (equivalent of landsorte or landrace), implying that being local it is diversified, but it may not always be the case :
So 100% the “variété-population” or “population” will be diverse, whereas “variété de terroir” or “variété locale” may sometime be pure lines, so more like the english “heirlooms” actually, it depends. Then it just means it is (or it has been) locally adapted.
Here, while I am searching for a few things using the database, (Framacalc - tableur collaboratif en ligne) I will list super value offers to make grexes to start with for just a penny, or a cent, or a peso, or… you get the point so that post will be edited a few times, and may later become a separate thread:
Welcome to Croatian Seeds Store (mix)
Here they have super value offers for making grexes: 30seeds of 20 eggplant varieties for 2.50€, or 15 seeds of 15 different tomato varieties for the same price…
Apart from those super offer they have loads of watermelon and melon varieties, each for about 2€. I used some of them last year to create separate early grexes of both. Seeds were fine.
Blandede Frø Arkiv - Fuglebjerggaard Netbutik Nordic Seed

Tomates buissonnantes sans tuteur en mélange

Thank you for bringing this topic to light. I am familiar with this petition and the process because there are several Croatian associations which are included in the process.
But I was not aware of this ban for long-distance seed sale. Now it makes sense why I had this intuitive urge to order as many seeds online from different sources as I can. I even asked my friends to donate to my seed bank project and I managed to order 400 euros of all kinds of seeds to put them together an multiply.
Knowing this piece of information motivates me even more to maybe invest a little bit more, and keep on multiplying them as much as possible. I think I will involve most of my village and friends in this project hahahahah.
Luckily, I am Balkan blood, and we know how to find at least 3 creative solutions for every ban our government puts in force through laws to get around it, so we will need to organize ourselves in a different way. But it is obvious where all the laws in EU are going because who “owns” the seeds, can control everyone.
Here in Croatia, we have many local seed keepers, and if anyone needs, I have several people around me who grow and sell/exchange all kinds of heirloom seeds.
For example, one woman is a seed keeper of 50 bean varieties (bush and pole). She sells 100 grams for 2 euro… as well as around 20 varieties of fresh bush and pole beans of all colors (30 seeds for 2 euros). I also know some other with beans, but this woman is closest to me. I can get them for anyone and ship, it will be cheaper and bigger quantity. Even more people can join the order.
Also, I know many more people who sell all kinds of tomatoes and peppers (some put really big quantities of seeds for more popular varieties, some less; depending how rare it is) Mostly they ask for 1.5-2 euro per pack. They also have all the green vegetables etc.
So whoever is hoping to maybe build own grexes with a limited budget, this can be a good solution. Because packs of seeds online go for 3+ euros for small amounts of seeds.
That is great news! 100 grams for 2 euro is super good value ! Thanks for offering We may split this topic with a separate thread about those “low-cost-first-year-grex” offers apart from our free swaps.
You can get to me through a private message with your preferences. I will be off for the upcoming 2 weeks, but when I come back I can see what I can get for you locally from different seed keepers.
It’s just a chart but it does the job if you need something we’ve been running on exchange and looking for contacts with European seed banks too. We regularly update do not hesitate to come back to see from time to time.
Do any of you have a source of colourful true potato seeds? Unfortunately Cultivariable no longer ships to Europe. I an on the hunt for his red fleshed potato seeds, but any colours will do. Winter is prime potato planting time here in Mallorca, and this year I don’t want to miss out on the fun of growing potatoes from seed😁
I bought 3 varieties of cultivariable a few years ago… and this year one finally bears its first fruits so I can put some aside to offer you in the fall.
I had chosen at the time :
Plants with seeds today do not resemble any of its three lineages, but one thing is for sure they are good to eat!
Make me think again at the end of October please because I will forget otherwise.
