Inspired by this post and other forum chatter about the cold hardiness of lentils, I broadcast a bunch into newly mown grass in the fall. We hit at least -1 F recently and maybe as low as -4 F (-20 C) and many of them are still trucking without much sign of stress. In many cases they are faring better than the peas, even ones that should be Austrian winter. No expected diversity in the seed (grocery store red lentils) but I might try something similar this season and maybe have some different varieties flowering at the same time in 2025.
Has anyone else had good luck with fall planted lentils in zone 7 or below?
