Seed libraries are wonderful!! I put in some of the Morton lettuce mix in at my hometown seed library last year, but Mom says she never did see anyone return something they’d found, liked, and saved. My local seed library doesn’t allow anything that’s not stable, unfortunately, but it’s still a cool resource for some nice south Florida adapted heirlooms!!
My local seed library allows anything and everything, so I put in anything and everything that seems worth sharing. People take them pretty quickly, so that seems to imply that I am filling a need!
I dunno if people ever return seeds grown from seeds they’ve taken, but it seems likely. A lot of the seeds in the seed library have been obviously seed-saved locally (for instance, if there’s chaff in there with them, you can be sure they weren’t bought). In any case, I don’t think anybody’s too worried about whether that happens or not, because the main thing is just to give more than you take, so that there’s always extra available to help beginners who have no extra seeds yet.
The local seed library here just organized and so far only excepts packaged, “seed company seeds”, no heirlooms yet and no mention of organic seeds.
