Gynura bicolor and procumbens - anyone working with these

I have both of these perennial spinaches growing happily in my garden and both make large amounts of seeds, however I cannot get them to germinate and assume they are sterile.

Is any one working with these or have any tips on how to get them to make fertile seeds?

Ive wondered about the breeding potential of Gynura as a perennial leaf veggie. The main domestic species need a lot more water than I can provide, but I had an ornamental shrubby species which was drought tolerant. Hand crossing tiny asteraceae flowers is a pain, but if you only have self incompatible clones then you may be able to induce fertile seed production by simply dusting from flower to flower between the two species on a regular basis to transfer pollen. Id gather as many species as possible to add to the project.
