Seed starting soil

What do you guys use for your seed starting soil? I only cold compost as I don’t have space for hot composting. I have seeds I’m starting but I don’t know what the cotyledons look like, so if I use my cold compost I won’t be able to distinguish unwanted cotyledons from wanted ones.

Right now, I’m using store bought good quality soil, just interested in what you guys do.

I justify this because these seeds I’m growing are scarce and precious.

I use just regular store bought potting mix with a bit of store bought seed stater mix on top. Also, grow lights help a lot

I’ve read that if the soil is too rich or artificially enriched it will interfere with the resulting strength of the plant.

I asked a similar question a while ago and I found the responses helpful. In case it’s useful, here is the link: Starting mediums for seeds
