Will do! Happy gardening this spring, @jens!
I’m ready! I will PM you.
Too many maypops is not a bad problem to have!
(Laugh.) Yes, too many maypops is a great problem!
My only problem is a lack of appropriate space for them all. But I’ll figure it out!
I have space, if you have extras.
I just separated the 5 most hearty into their own cups. Assuming they all thrive, once they get a little bigger maybe we can discuss me making a road trip down to you for delivery of a couple. Because I really only need two-ish. And another one just popped up… the EFN instructions for starting them mentioned intermittent germination over time, but I didn’t realize just how spread out it would be. I may end up with even more babies at this rate!
That’s so neat!
I got the box a couple days ago!
@Kimzy I will probably be ready to send it out tuesday or wednesday. Message me your address when you are ready.
Totally forgot: May I be added to the bottom of the list?
Yep! You are added!
Yes,
Sounds good, Im happy to message you with my address for the wonderful box of seeds.
@UnicornEmily I realized I don’t have much to add to the box  I’ve got maybe 5 little packets of different seeds. Okay if I still get the box, since I’m after Kimzy? I’m okay if I need to drop off till fall and I’ve got more to add in.
It’s okay to get it now! Just plan to put in more next time. We all go through phases of having more to give at some times than others. I contributed way more than I took out last time I got it, so it all balances out!
Okay, thanks! I know that this fall I should have all sorts of seeds.. or so I hope. If the snails don’t keep cleaning out my garden beds. luckily a bucket of soapy water is cutting their numbers!
Yeahhhh, snails can be such an annoyance. And roly polies. And I discovered yesterday that there was an anthill full of happy ants digging up and eating all my peanut seeds I’d planted the day before! They looked like they had been starting to germinate, but their softening cotyledons were already mostly eaten . . .
Ants are the one thing I’m willing to poison in my garden beds. We have fire ants and Argentinian ants, both of which are aggressive and have a nasty sting/ bite. And, with all honestly, poison ivy is the one plant I’ll use a targeted herbicide on, b/c the reaction to that is just nasty for me, and deadly for my hubby. I’ve read enough Jack London to know that nature is always trying to kill us!
Ouch, fire ants! Yeah, those sound like a problem. We just have the little black ants, which are mostly fine and not much of a nuisance. I only put out diatomaecous earth to kill them if they start going into our house, and even then, I only put it around the outside of the house. I generally find them to be unobjectionable in my garden beds.
But then again, I had never realized they will eat my germinating peanut seeds before.
Have you ever considered getting one of those fire torches for the poison ivy? That might be a good way to kill it in a targeted way without having to resort to a herbicide. Plus, then their charcoal remains would make the soil better for everything around them. Might be neat.
oooo, I never really gave one of those torches a thought. I’ll look into that. Thanks, that might be a better option. Lately, I’ve geared up with farmer’s sleeves, the pre-exposure goop, and my gloves, boots and long pants and pulled as much poison ivy as I could find in an hour, and aiming to pull the root, too. Luckily, PI isn’t hard to pull, its just not something you can do with bare hands. Of course, the other scourge is green briar, which is nasty for a different reason… thorns. Super sharp and an inch long, they will draw blood. Mother Nature. “don’t mess with mother nature, mothers-in-law, or mother-freaking Ukrainians” (Skinny Pete, The Italian Job). Yeah, mother nature is just as deadly!
I wouldn’t use a fire torch; I’ve heard that it can volatilize the toxic oils, resulting in inhalation and a trip to the emergency room, since the oils are just as irritating to the lungs as they are to the skin. Even just burning some in a bonfire can be dangerous.
