Okay! I received the box on Saturday, and then spent most of Monday and Tuesday reorganizing stuff, making little bags of stuff to put into the backup box, and pulling little bags of stuff out of the backup box and moving them into the main box, because they had run out, so it was time to put them in.
I had about fifty new things from myself to put in, and the backup box added about another thirty, so the box is really well-stocked for Rachel.
I put it in the mail to Rachel on Wednesday, so it should be arriving to her soon!
Hi Jessica @Iamadesertcreature,
I expect to receive the box any day now, and I hope to send it back out within a couple days. Will you be ready to receive it as soon as next week? If so, please message me with your mailing address.
Here’s what I’m adding. It definitely helped to have my contributions organized ahead of time, because wow! Getting the box is slightly overwhelming (in a good way).
Ooooooh, Withner True Cornfield beans. I’m a fan of Carol Deppe, and have been wanting to try them. If they all get claimed before the box makes its way to me next time, will you have some spares that you can trade me?
Yeah, organizing seeds to go in before the box arrives is definitely the way to go. It keeps the overwhelm down to a minimum, and makes things go so much more quickly!
Can I be (tentatively) added to the bottom of the list? Assuming the 1-2 weeks per person, that means several months before it’s coming 'round my way and I’ll have a ton of things to add by then. Including a whole selection of micro tomatoes I’m doing seed grow-outs for right now, and with luck, some wild golden currant that I’ve discovered blooming nearby that I’ll be harvesting for seeds (and fruit for preserves!) when they’re ripe.
Edit:
Last year, before everything went sideways, I’d snagged a few fruit seeds out of the swap box. One was maypops, which surprisingly I’ve got several healthy seedlings right now, and another was wild black raspberries… they germinated with a vengeance, but I apparently forgot to record info on the source… anyone remember putting wild black raspberry seeds in the original box at some point?
My ONLY complaint is that I need to find room for all 5-6 of the maypops, instead of the two I was hoping for, lol. The black raspberries, at least, I can share with a friend who wants a berry thicket for the understory of a wooded part of her lot.
