Make that a metal garbage can which you can put out in the sun to sterilize the contents.

I like that idea! Plastic was what I had on hand, so it’s what I’m using right now, but it is black, so the sun is probably being pretty harsh to its contents, too. 
A metal garbage can would definitely be nice to use for the future.
