Where could I go to find info on edible wild plants in Hong Kong?

Is there anywhere I could go to look up edible wild plants in Hong Kong?

I’m curious because I used to live there, and I keep thinking, “What on Earth were those weeds that I used to see all the time?” I’m curious as a botany nerd, but I’m also interested as a gardener, because if anything’s edible and taste good, maybe I could try looking for seeds to try growing some nostalgic species I used to see all the time in my greenhouse here in Utah.

Without a doubt you should install the inaturalist app and start making observations. More knowledgable people will then identify any pictures you upload. I’ve been doing this with the fauna and flora of Haiti for a couple of years now and it has been so helpful. It also helps naturalists along the way to learn what is in your area. You can also use the app to browse any area of the world. Any botany lover should get comfortable with this app.

That sounds awesome! I don’t live in Hong Kong anymore, so I can’t do that with Hong Kong flora and fauna, but maybe someone else has, and I can browse what observations they’ve made?

For sure all the common fauna and flora around HK will be already identified. Even Haiti has more or less of its common species documented so I’m sure the HK area will be well documented.

Woo hoo! I see a whole bunch of info here! Thank you!

There’s a great book called “Foods plants of China”, Food Plants of China | Columbia University Press

The author is from Hong Kong. Let me know if you have questions about it via DM, might be able to help.
