Inulin seems to be about a third to half as sweet as sucrose, if that helps!
Which is a pity, because that makes it not very valuable to use as a subsitution for sugar in a recipe.

Miracle Berry (Synsepalum dulcificum) will make anything sour taste sweet.
Yes, which makes it sound awesome beyond all reason.
I thought that characteristic was completely unique, but apparently mabinlang can do that too, using a completely different chemical compound. Which gives me hope that maybe there are more plants out there that can do it – perhaps even some temperate plant somewhere that has been overlooked. I want to find one like that!!!
I feel like it’s one of those things I won’t understand or Believe until I personally experience it myself. Like how does it actually make everything sour taste sweet? Is this how we “Fix” nasty sour foods? The Miracle Berry isn’t toxic at all just changes the way you taste things right?
Cuz Indian Gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica) makes water taste sweet by being so sour & astringent that the taste of water simply returns the homeostasis back to normal. In other words, you got used to things taste too sour.
I’ve heard what miracle berries do is block the taste receptors for sourness. I originally thought it was just sourness, but apparently it blocks bitterness, too. And metallic aftertastes. And most unpleasant things, but they leave the flavor otherwise intact.
They just overall sound awesome.
You can buy miracle berry tablets online. They work.
Very interesting, so you basically get to experience what it feels like to have certain taste buds missing? What a truly bizare fruit. I love that it keeps the flavor intact, may be a great way to eat healthy things that don’t taste great (Altho Ideally I’d want to breed the bad flavors out rather than rely on Miracle Berry to make them tolerable).
One question, does it also mess with the sense of smell? I can’t imagine eating Miracle berry & not being able to tell without smell if food is rotten or if your Zuchinni is actually bitter . It might make the most toxic bitter squash not taste bitter, which can be a lil scary if your breeding Wild Squash. How long does the effect last?
Oh wow! Even in just tablet form they work? I wonder if you can just buy the berry to save the seed & grow yourself? I never seen Miracle Berries at the Grocery Store (None even at the International Grocery Store).
Looks like all the actual berries sold are freeze dried and cut in half.
You can buy fresh berries online from sellers on Ebay, Etsy, and so forth. They usually cost about $1-$2 per berry, plus postage. So not cheap. But awfully cool.
I can recommend this seller, whom I have bought seeds from:
You can usually get seeds for about the same price. Unfortunately, most people who sell the fruit remove the seed and then sell that separately, so you generally can’t buy a fruit with the expectation of getting a free seed.
On top of that, the seeds have no dormancy mechanism – they can never dry out, and must be planted right away.
If you’re willing to have a miracle fruit houseplant, that’s a reasonable option. Since they’re a zone 11 plant, you will almost certainly want to keep them as houseplants in the winter, anyway. They’re a bush that can fruit in two years and does just fine in pots, so they’re fine for that purpose. Put them in soil mix that is ideal for blueberries, since they want acidic soil.
