The Devil in the Garden

Something bad happened to him later that day.

What the heck is that thing?

Hammerhead worm.

Uch! I was curious, so I looked them up. According to an article I read, they secrete a neurotoxin (the same one that’s in pufferfish) if you touch them with your bare hands! And of course they have to be able to survive as two worms if you cut them in half. And of course they have to be an invasive species with no natural predators in the places they’re colonizing right now. Uch!

Lol, I cut it in half with a blunt stick. I have no idea if it survived or doubled itself. I had recognized it as a threat but did not research until later.

Also, I have found out it also likes to eat slugs. For anybody with a slug problem, this guy might be a control. I think he will do more harm than good.

That just makes me cringe! Kind of terrifying. Now i must look them up and see if we have them and how big they are!

Up to 18 inches, but usually much smaller. They have no natural predators here, and they seem to prefer hot and humid.
