I will concentrate on raising funds via our organizations here in Denmark (travel expenses and a donation for GTS) and would prefer to stay out of the crowdfunding part.

I would like to put together a list of hosts, people, and organizations that are hosting or sponsoring my European tour. It will help with crowd funding…

If you represent a farm/organization that is supporting the tour with housing, facilities, donations, speaking opportunities, etc could you please add to the list here… If you’d like to add your name as a personal sponsor that’s great too.

International Farmer Seeds Gathering: Sow Your Resistance co-organized by the french network (Réseau Semences paysannes), the SOL NGO (alternatives agroécologiques et solidaires), and the local Seed House (Maison des Semences Maralpines) .

Going to Seed: Inspiring a shift in agriculture towards adaptation, community, and diversity.

Gaia Foundation, Seed Sovereignty UK and Ireland Programme, working with experts and growers across the UK and Ireland for a food revolution that starts with seeds.

From the top of my head, in France I think about:

I suggest you ring the bell about this need of listing precisely those communities at our meeting.

TO ALL: see 2024-08-08T18:00:00Z meeting agenda and documents in previous post!!!
Zoom link is still : Launch Meeting - Zoom

these 2 documents are a basis for discussion for tonight’s meeting on:
-GTS stand on Saturday 5th: info and main settings (cf. doc stand 1_GTS under) - 10’
-GTS stand on Saturday 5th: content / brainstorming about what we would like to show as GTS and how precisely to do it (cf doc stand 2_GTS under) - 25’

Here my notes before Stéphane brings in a main spreadsheet regarding GTS Stand organisation :

We’ll be from 8 to 10 there. Namely registered : @Hugo @Joseph_Lofthouse @julia.dakin @malterod @Hekseringen @stephane_rave @mare.silba @ThomasPicard
Videos and recordings :
Anyone willing to join in the discussion notably about the post-production of the 5’ video and its main focus please come in (see quotation in PM or ask Julia or Thomas for that)

Printings :

  • Leaflets :
100 ( ?) french + 500 ( ?) english both Antibes and Terra Madre (Julia atending) and Joseph’s European Tour
  • Posters : two in french and english
@anna asks for costings in relation with @stephane_rave . A possibility is that it could be print and sent from the US.

BRAINSTORMING: What we want show as GTS at the event ? (brainstorming about our main priorities and “special qualities” as GTS in this International Gathering where mainly Farmers Organizations gather. This for later use as a checklist and reminder for Antibes stand design)

  • Adaptation to climate change
  • « Adaptation gardening »
  • We are highlighting Importance of diversity practically
  • Adaptation, diversity, community (flashing that in multiple ways)
  • Our mindset : the fact we are all different, fexible. Openness
  • Spirit of resistance to seed companies, to big companies and in relation to that empowerment of everybody
  • « reclaiming heirloom » (Malte). And in relation to that : the fact we are a community especially creative, working to create, or make happen, things unseen, new, in a world of farming - and gardening - that is frequently conservative - knowingly or not.
  • The seed sharing in community and its virtues (much much cheaper, kind of community insurance for crop failure years…)
  • Our specific ability to propose an alternative for marginal soils

Next meeting relative to Antibes only: 2024-09-05T18:00:00Z

Next meeting relative to Joseph’s European Tour, with all local/national collectives : 2024-08-22T18:00:00Z - could be short (1hmax): “introduce yourself” for the new ones in (Brittany, England), then overview of each step’s agenda and then mostly dedicated to technical details of coordination between the different steps (tickets, payments, etc.)

as seen yesterday together:

  • I am the coordinator for the logistics part of the GTS Antibes stand
  • I have drafted a spreadsheet to simplify the information related to the stand (ideas from the brainstorming/ implementation/ realization).

It is located here:
https://lite.framacalc.org/8firslgxv8-a8k7

you can fill it in the blank boxes, add lines for new ideas or make comments …(this saves automatically)
There is a lack of a head of the seed part, a head of the fruit/ harvest part, a head of the plants part, a head of decoration/ material.
If you volunteer on these parts it doesn’t mean that you do everything about it, you are just a referee so that it goes well and you will be helped by others.

Example: X is seed referent, He gets in touch with the participants of the stand and upstream with any member who can send seeds on D-day. This allows us to list that we have diversity and lots of different seeds and remind each member of the seeds they must bring.

the information collected by each can be centralized on this table, which allows everyone to see the progress of all and especially if last minute problem for a participant (illness…) easily replace him in his task.

Thank you, and I look forward to meeting in Antibes!
you will see in real life I am not of such a military organization

In October a super event will happen in France. It will bring together hundreds of farmers from all over discussing seed saving landrace style.

The French version book presentation will take place! Conferences will be filmed and seeds exchanged!

After Joseph will travel the continent to seed saving collectives. Help us pay for this trip!

Joseph’s European Speaking Tour
https://ko-fi.com/josephlofthouseauthor/posts

Help Joseph spread seeds across Europe. In October a super-inspiring event will take place in the south of France, in the Mediterranean city of Antibes. It will bring together hundreds of farmers from all around the world discussing the importance of adaptation agriculture, seed saving and outgrowing, experiences so far and solutions to problems that farmers implementing it face. There will be numerous workshops surrounding seed saving, endophytes and everything crop breeding related from the 3th, 4th and 5th of October, for and by farmers and experts from over a hundred countries. We’ll enjoy fresh local food and a day of seed exchange for farmers open to public.

Going to Seed will have a stand with diversely tongued people explaining the landrace concept to interested gardeners and farmers alike. We’ll have flyers in French and English. And the stand will be beautifully decorated by the members of the group. The presentation of the French version of Joseph’s book will take place, the start of a paradigm shift in seed saving techniques for a deeply agricultural society in the heart of Europe as well as a few hundred million French speaking people living in Africa. The conferences, are taking place in two buildings, sometimes five or six subjects will be covered simultaneously. Impossible to follow that all. GTS has gotten a grant to organize a local film crew to film the most relevant conferences and audio tape all the others for podcasts. We understand not everybody worldwide can afford to fly in, so we hope to make live streaming of the event available for everybody to see online. The audio will be made into podcasts in four languages.

To dynamize the rusty seed saving situation in Europe even further, Joseph has been invited by several seed saver collectives spread throughout Europe. The planned tour involves Croatia, Thomas Picard’s collective in Limoges, Brittany France, Scotland, England and it will end in Copenhagen Denmark with an event that brings together kitchen and field at the city’s culinary school hosted by Malte Rod & colleagues. Since the last 15 years, Copenhagen has become one of the most lively cities for gastronomy and the seed saving community is experiencing a growing interest in adaptive and diverse seed.

They’re aiming to get diverse wheat grower Anders Borgen, landrace gardener Bodil Gimbel and perennial vegetables guru Stephen Barstow to come. As well as members of the culinary community that are interested in working with genetic crop diversity and community-oriented breeding.

The planned tour will come at a price, we’re expecting to need 3000 dollars for travel expenses and we’re hoping we can count on you or your organization’s help to make this possible. The following (people and) organizations have made this event possible.

Going to Seed: Inspiring a shift in agriculture towards adaptation, community, and diversity. Sponsored plane tickets to get Joseph and Julia Dakin to Europe. We’re immensely grateful to Going to Seed for working together and helping out as much as needed to spurt on our common mission of making folks and farmers alike more resistant while leaving the planet healthier and tastier.

Just a comment on “the rusty seed saving situation in europe” :
I feel this way of wording things a bit offending and I fear some european people might resent this. In the french version I am working on I suggest “redynamiser” .

Suggestion for the french version :

Nous aurons un petit prospectus en français et en anglais (question from isabelle: what is the reasons to mention this flyer in this text aimed at fundraisers?) .

(note form Isabelle : if Koal Koz and D’une graine a l’autre have contributed, they should be in the list)

Thank you Isabelle. I updated “rusty” in the english version.

So many moving parts to this. Hard to know who’s doing what… Feedback welcomed regarding other people, organizations, or farms that are helping.
