ARCHIVE: Joseph's visit in Europe - preliminary meetings June - Sept. 2024

I volunteer for the fruit/harvest + the plants parts. As I should bring in the EU Serendipity Seed Swap and as I will have loads to share, I tend to think about volunteering for that too but, as I know I will be busy elsewhere (coordinating workshops and other things) I would prefer somonelse volunteer for that.

As I am kind of busy right now, I propose to expand on fruit/harvest + plants in the Framacalc 1st week of September, starting with what I can bring in with my van (watermelon, squash, peppers, tomatoes, etc, and plants I’ll have + others from the french group will bring in, etc), and then proposing lines to fill.

For the Serendipity seed swap - part of the “Seed coordination”, -I suggest someone (@Hugo?) brings that in instead of me, firstly to sort it a bit prior to put it on the stand, so that we make sure it is clear enough for presentation, as I fear I will be super busy by then too, having to precocify both my harvests and sowing of cover crops prior to go to Antibes by the end of September and then to be with Joseph until he flies to Scotland (11th of October). The one taking the head of the seed part could identify what could be complementary to the existing serendipity seed swap and so ask for it, and also get in contact with me for connections with both the others “evolutionary populations” (aka modern landraces, PEPS, Semences Paysannes Métissées…) stand, and with the associated giant seed swap.

Rephrasing suggestion: "Videos of the workshops and plenary sessions we’ll be involved in will be made available in four languages, and podcasts of other contents will be both in english and french."

The rest is fine to me. Bravo!

For the french, scottish and english parts I suggest :

  • either we don’t give precise dates of events and we start right now the crowd funding.
  • or we wait until next Community Call (2024-08-22T18:00:00Z because I ask all the guys involved in this who have not showed up yet (Kaol Kohz, D’Une Graine aux Autres, Brittany + English farm and Gaia Fondation Seed Sovereignity Programme) or haven’t given yet precise details (Scotland) to come in, say hello, and expose their ideas. So that we have a definitive schedule to show for the crowd funding.

Personnally I wouldn’t mind both options. I’ll let you reading that say what’s best, in particular @Joseph_Lofthouse , @mare.silba @Hugo

Great to following all the work being done. I can see the fundraiser is close to done. Please tag me when it’s ready to go out, so we can send it to our communities here.

Hey everybody, could someone generate a link for 2024-08-22T18:00:00Z

Hope everybody can make it, to do the final adjustments, so that we can launch the corresponding crowd funding and book the related tickets. :grinning:

Guys from Brittany will be there, just asking England who could not show up previously.

So the only subject is:

  • quich updates from each step of Joseph’s trip, starting with Croatia

In particular, these were important things related to Joseph’s tour which were to clarify:

  • Croatia-Antibes travel : when (monday, tuesday, wednesday?) and how
  • Antibes : lodging (was discussed in PM)
  • Antibes-Brittany-travel : proposal to be made (I got it, with 2 steps in 2 farmqs along the way, going through french lovely and very diverse landscapes by van) / alternative demand made by Caroline Miquel (Bordeaux)
  • Brittany ; clarification of content: what, when, where with who (should show up)
  • England : clarification of content: what, when, where with who (should show up)

Then: for the rest, all dates and details, still relevant in the 25th of July meeting notes, transcript from our discussion: :Joseph's visit in Europe - next community call 22th of August 8pm Paris Time - Joseph's European tour only - #61 by ThomasPicard

I would suggest a next community call on the 2024-09-05T18:00:00Z related to all Antibes’things. We could also show our related organisationnal graphs made by @stephane tonight quickly.
Also, updates on the video part soon, as Sophie told me yesterday she had updates that she will send to Julia soon : on that part I suggest we upload this in the https://goingtoseed.discourse.group/t/josephs-visit-in-europe-people-involved-only/2667/46 when we get it and organise a video meeting by the beginning of next week, for those who are interested)

Here is a link for the call later

I am going to communicate on that in french networks with this text. Thank you!

Today, I bought bus tickets to get me to/from the airport in Salt Lake City.

I have funds to buy a ticket from Copenhagen to Zagreb. Communicating with Malte about the possibility of staying the night of September 26th in Denmark so that I can get an easier flight into Zagreb in the morning, instead of late in the evening.

Hi All,
I’m not sure if I am using this system correctly, but an update on plans in Scotland (English plans are developing, exciting news on that shortly).

October 11-15th
Friday 11th - Collect Joseph from Edinburgh Airport late afternoon
Saturday 12th - Talk by Joseph and project tour at Lauriston Farm in Edinburgh (and other nearby projects to be confirmed)
Sunday 13th - Visit to Lowood Project in Melrose and day of relaxation and bird watching with Martin Broadgate (Marianne’s Dad)
Monday 14th - Visit to East Neuk and Scotland the Bread in Fife and other nearby Projects (yet to be confirmed) and possible talk in Pillars of Hercules Polytunnel in Falkland.
Accommodation: with Marianne Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Ninian Stuart in Falkland Monday night. Travel to England to be confirmed/arranged (this will involve a train journey from Fife over the Forth Rail Bridge which is amazing!).

Note: Sinead Fortune from the Gaia Seed Sovereignty programme is doing most of the coordination in Scotland and England for which I am incredibly grateful. I’m not sure if she part of this discussion/online community but I will check!

Thanks Julia. If no one could I would post a Jitsi link here half an hour before 2024-09-05T18:00:00Z

I eat omnivorously without fuss. I tend to minimize wheat and sugar, cause they make me fat. Once a day, no problem, but if every meal is primarily wheat, then I get a stuffy nose, and stiff joints. I drink a little wine (once a week), and minimal caffeine (~100 mg/day).

Thank you @Joseph_Lofthouse. I suggest we have a final meeting dedicated to your tour next week, or within days, to finalise what’s still unclear, make a coordinated move on the crowd funding part (too low right now), and for you to express your needs, basic or not, not ten times, but just once for all, and to all coordinators of each step. If not all can come doesn’t matter, as I would make a written recap for all just after that. Then you still could have discussions with the different local coordinators for this or that.

Maybe we could take 10 minutes at the end of this 2024-09-05T18:00:00Z meeting to exchange with you on where we are regarding flights and trains: I have seen your posts (and personnally I know I have to find train from Brittany to Paris Charles de Gaulle and then from Paris Charles de Gaulles to Scotland). I have seen moves on flights and I am in the English/Scottish WhatsApp group, but had no time to delve into anything seriuously. Now I am back on this.

Also, for Antibes workshops on friday morning and presentation on saturday, I suggest we do a separate meeting for me to give you the main guidelines, and get your feedback from it, and notably with @julia.dakin who said she could help with it, and with Sophie Vallet-Chevillard (who help me coordinating the workshops). Why not with Salavatore Ceccarelli and his wife Stefania Grando so that you get to know each other and are at the same page from start.

Hi all, first time posting on Discourse so forgive any faux pas (which itself may be a faux pas with actual French speakers in the thread ), I’ve been asked to give an update on the Scottish/English journeys here. I’ve bolded sections that require something to be booked:

  • Friday 11 October: Marianne collects Joseph from Edinburgh airport. Hosted by Marianne.
  • Saturday 12: Farm tour and public talk at Lauriston Farm in Edinburgh, site of a crowd breeding project. https://buytickets.at/thegaiafoundation/1375423 Marianne to confirm other Edinburgh projects. Hosted by Marianne.
  • Sunday 13: rest day - Visit to Lowood Project in Melrose and day of relaxation and bird watching. Hosted by Marianne.
  • Monday 14: Up to Fife for informal gathering with Scotland the Bread, East Neuk Market Garden (another crowd breeding project), Falkland Estate, and the Seed Sovereignty team. Hosted by Ninian Stuart at Falkland Estate: https://falklandestate.co.uk/
  • Tuesday 15: Journey south to England. Ninian to drop at train station. Book train Ladybank to Cheltenham Spa, aim for a ticket with only 1 change (at Edinburgh Waverly) - any time that works best for Joseph, just let Tim know what time to pick up Tim George will pick up at Cheltenham Spa and take to Asthall Manor: https://www.asthallmanor.com/. Hosted by Tim.
  • Wednesday 16: rest day at Asthall Manor - yoga, swimming, frolicking on the grounds. Hosted by Tim.
  • Thursday 17: Tim drives to Oxton Organics: https://www.oxtonorganics.co.uk/. Gathering of crowd breeding projects around the UK. Return to Asthall Manor, hosted by Tim.
  • Friday 18: Tim drops Joseph off at train or airport for Copenhagen flight. Can book either train from Oxford to Birmingham airport (involves transfer at Birmingham) and then flight Birmingham to Copenhagen or just flight Birmingham to Copenhagen and Tim will drop at airport, please let Tim know

I think that’s everything for now, hope that’s clear and useful enough!

for tonight with quick discussion one phone with @ThomasPicard, Agenda :

1/ communities reactivations for Joseph 's crowfounding

2/ finalization of the stand GTS part
discussion around this design and content model made according to what was said last time (cf last picture at down) .

Who brings the vegetables for decoration?
Who brings the decoration seeds?
Who brings the objects of decoration (nape, beautiful containers…)?
Who gathered the small equipment (twine, scissors, stapler…)?
(this is certainly one of the last online meetings I can attend before early October because we are going on holidays for about ten days 18-29 September and I would not be reachable)

3/ Organization of GTS participation in the seed exchange table (not on the same stand)

4/ Organization of GTS participation at the landrace vegetable tasting table (not on the same stand)
