Jitsi has the benefit of being a free/libre open source project with no time limitation and doesn’t collect and sell your meta-data: https://meet.jit.si We use it for all our meetings where I come from. At least one person usually needs to create a user to become a moderator of the meeting link.

Regarding software

  • as @Richard mentioned, there’s Discord (which I really like), and there’s already a Going to Seed channel and a set up for meetings
  • for Jitsi - we were using it this summer when aranging Antibes and Joseph’s Europe tour; there was a techical reason we stopped using it, I’m sorry I don’t remember what was exactly wrong/glitchy etc, but @ThomasPicard might know

Was sometimes when we shared screens, did not work. Apart from that Jitsi was fine. Yes someone needs to create an account and be the host.

@Richard et @mare.silba obviously Discord is already ready for GTS ? Do we have to register all of us on it to use it ? Thank for writing the connect link here.

Next Tuesday we will be able to spend this good moment together to project ourselves in the European landrace meeting 2025!

3 décembre, 20h UTC+1

Is it possible to not be a member of this forum and be on the discourse “zoom” call?

There are a lot of PEPS people not yet on the discourse platform. So if we use the discourse Zoom or whatever some will make it and be members(hehehe), forever and ever (MUHUHUHUHAAA).
But on a serious note, some will not bother then i feel. And we’ve had a meeting yesterday already about who’s doing what and i thought it was great and full of enthusiasm but, it didn’t get mentioned at all, or did i miss something? @ThomasPicard @Sebastien @Bruno

Of course. It is like doing a call on instagram or something like that. You have to register on discord though.

Yes, you have to register there and accept a link to enter the server. And then just enter the channel to chat. You can enter any time, and talk with everybody any time that is there.

20h UTC+1 is 21:00 in Spain?

I will try to be there

So that registring could be a bridge too far for some. If we’re used to zoom or jitsi or whatever, might be better.

20h UTC+1 = Paris time

Yea, can be. Google meets can work?

You are right it wasn’t mentionned but board members (Sophie, @Sebastien, @Bruno, Maxime, Jérémy +me) are up to date on this via the PEPs platform and will join in. I will be waiting for the actual link to send it to them + why not the overall group if some would like to join in.
Thanks for the reminder!

I think for the time beeing, something simple where people don’t have to have an account will be the best.

I propose we go with Jitsy for now, I’m guessing there won’t be a need for screen sharing that much, at least in this first phase.

My opinion on other options:

  • Zoom - most of us are familiar with it, no account needed; but free ver. have just 40 min and that doesn’t suit us
  • Google meet - needs a google account and not everyone has a gmail; also 60 min. max for a meet; big issue for me is that google is a “big brother” style company, I would like to skip it if possible (same goes for Microsoft Teams)
  • Discord - this is not a forum, it has a lot of options that can be usefull in a later stage of our arrangements; an account is needed for this one, but after everyone is in the GTS server, there is no need for separate links and setups for a meet etc;
I agree that may be too much for now and feel that we could leave this option open for later stage

If we go with Jitsi I can be a host, no problem there…

And to be completely sure everyone is on the same page regarding time, @stephane_rave please confirm if this is correct:
20 h CET - I think most of us are in this zone - France, Spain, Denmark, Croatia, Austria, Germany, Poland, Sweden…
19 h UTC/GMT - this would be for Ireland, UK, Portugal
21 h EET - Finland, Greece, Bulgaria etc.

If Jitsi is free and open, let’s go with that one, i’m all for discord, but not if people need to make an account that come from outside. If we have a call between us on this platform, we could practice that…

I hope i don’t step on someone’s toes by saying it like i feel it, but timewise it’s best a decision is made today or tomorrow. So if nobody strongly objects with good reasoning i think we should just go along with that option.

Great if you want to host it Mare.

Those generational gaps are not in my radar

I am ok with whatever software, and looking forward to meet you all next week.

I also propose to add a topic for this meeting, or to find another time for another topic which is: seed stewardship of specific crops, and as much exchange as possible.
Why I think that is important - the law that was stopped last year regarding regulation of seed exchange and regulating the seed market in favor of corporations is currently going through the process of triangulation, and the outcome depends mostly on lobbying, and who will offer what. Hungary is currently the president of EU Council and is against this law, but from next year some countries are taking over who are quite in favor of passing the law which will give absolute control over seeds in EU to corporations. So, I think we also need to think about systems we can set up among ourselves to increase the amount of diversity we all have, to be stewards of multiple crops, or to have something like Fukuoka grab bags of landraces from different countries to store in multiple places for potentially challenging times.

Just an idea to discuss for now or later

Ok so I’d say let’s go for a Jitsi. @mare.silba could you create a link please?
After you post it here I’ll transfer it to the french members of the network working on the same path. Expect +2 to 4 participants on tuesday and not more as more than 50% of French people don’t read english, and so then when it comes to listening to it, and worse to talking, you get the picture  Possible we see Sophie, Max, @Bruno , @Sebastien. Then for the others we’ll see.
